Your Michael Vick update for this week: Don’t you just love the way Vick’s media groupies focus on the dropped passes rather than the bad throws.
If you turned on ESPN this week, you’d think that Vick’s 15 incompletions against the Saints were all drops. ESPN just kept showing three dropped passes by Atlanta receivers.
I’m not suggesting that Vick has solid receivers. He doesn’t. He has about what Trent Green has had in Kansas City for six years – a tight end and an assortment of No. 2 or No. 3 receivers.
Green has completed well over 60 percent of his passes for more than 20,000 yards while in Kansas City.
You’re supposed to elevate the people around you when you receive a $140 million contract. You ever see footage of Manning, Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne warming up 90 minutes before pre-game warmups? They go over every route before every game. Manning and Harrison are fanatical about timing and chemistry.
You ever wonder why you don’t see similar footage of Vick and his receivers?
You have to work at the craft of playing quarterback in the NFL. You can’t just wing it and rely on your raw talent. When you do that, you look like Favre at the end of his career.
I’m not surprised Vick melted down and flipped off Falcons fans at the end of the game. Vick lacks composure in the pocket. He’s undisciplined. He’s had his butt kissed for so long he has no idea how to handle adversity.
