WNBA roundup: Lynx rally to reach title series
Maya Moore poured in 40 points and hit the game-winning free throw with 1.5 seconds left to give the Minnesota Lynx a 72-71 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday in Phoenix, sending the Lynx to the WNBA Finals with a two-game sweep in the Western Conference series.
Minnesota has now reached the title series for the fourth time in five seasons, and will play either New York or Indiana in the championship series.
With Phoenix inbounding the ball in its frontcourt with a 5.4 seconds left and the teams tied at 71, Moore stole the inbounds pass from Noelle Quinn, and, as the two were battling for control, Quinn was called for a foul.
Moore made the first three throw, and the Lynx rebounded the miss on the second shot as time ran out.
Candice Dupree led the defending champion Mercury with 16 points.
Fever 70, Liberty 64
Indiana overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to tie the best-of-three series at a game apiece, setting up a deciding third game in New York on Tuesday.
Indiana star Tamika Catchings scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half to rally Indiana to a victory in Indianapolis.
New York center Tina Charles scored 25 points, including 17 in the first half, and had 10 rebounds.
