Maryland-North Carolina highlights 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge schedule

Do people still actually circle dates on calendars?

    I honestly don't know.

But, if they do, Dec. 1 is undeniably a date worth circling for college basketball fans. Because that's when the schools ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the preseason Top 25 (and one) will play a game that headlines the 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

    The matchups were announced Wednesday.

    Here's the schedule:

    ----- Nov. 30 -----

    Clemson at Minnesota
    Wake Forest at Rutgers
    ----- Dec. 1 -----

    Maryland at North Carolina
    Virginia at Ohio State
    Michigan at North Carolina State
    Purdue at Pittsburgh
    Northwestern at Virginia Tech
    Miami at Nebraska
    ----- Dec. 2 -----

    Indiana at Duke
    Louisville at Michigan State
    Wisconsin at Syracuse
    Notre Dame at Illinois
    Florida State at Iowa
    Penn State at Boston College
Clearly, the best game, on paper, is Maryland at North Carolina.

The Tar Heels are No. 1 in the Top 25 (and one).

The Terrapins are ranked No. 2.

So the schedule-makers have given us a made-for-TV matchup featuring two legitimate national title contenders who were, just two years ago, in the same conference. Then, the following night, just eight miles away, Indiana will play at Duke in another high-profile contest. The Hoosiers are No. 13 in the Top 25 (and one). The Blue Devils are No. 6.

The ACC leads the series 10-4-2.

The Big Ten won the event last season.
