Happy Easter everyone. Back to posting. Let's get some MLB Winners.

    Minnesota Twins vs Baltimore Orioles

Sunday afternoon bases and the AL Central will square off with the AL East as the Minnesota Twins rumble with the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. This is the final game of a three-game set. The Orioles took game one by a score of 3-2 in 11 innings. Pitching Probables: Toeing the slab for the Twins will be Jose Berrios, while the Orioles will be sending out Kevin Gausman. (Was Written Prior To Yesterday’s Game)

Twins Look To Bounce Back From Tough Opener

The Twins finished in 2nd place in the AL Central last year and they became the first team in league history to make the postseason, a year after they lost 100 games. The Wildcard race is wide open again and the Twins may have what it takes to sneak in again. This team is rich with young talent including Miguel Sano, Max Kepler, Byron Buxton and Eddie Rosario and those four were a big reason why the Twins finished 7th in the league in scoring last year. That offense didn’t really show up in the opener against the Orioles as they scored just two runs on eight hits in the 3-2 loss in 11 innings. They scored both runs in the top of the 9th to tie the game, only to eventually lose it in 11 innings. It was a tough way for them to start their season, but they still have plenty of games left to show that they are for real. They got a good start in the game from Jake Odorizzi in his first start with the Twins as he allowed just two hits and no ERs in six innings of work. Zach Duke then came in and allowed two ERs in one inning of work. Fernando Rodney allowed two hits and one ER in the bottom of the 11th to take the loss.

Toeing the slab for the Twins in this one will be Jose Berrios, who went 14-8 with a 3.89 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 26 games (25 starts) last year, including 5-7 with a 5.17 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 15 starts on the road. In his career, he has gone 8-9 with a 5.64 ERA in 23 starts on the road and 9-4 with a 5.06 ERA in 14 starts during the daytime, while against the Orioles he has gone a perfect 2-0 with a 4.37 ERA in three starts, including 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA in one start here at Camden Yards.

The Twins were very good at the plate last year as they ranked 7th in the league in scoring, putting up 5.03 rpg, while also ranking 9th in hitting at .260 and 16th in homers with 206. On the mound, they were a bit below average as they ranked 19th in the league in ERA at 4.59, while also ranking 17th in WHIP at 1.37 and 29th in K’s with 1166.

    Jones Lifts O’s Over Twins

The Baltimore Orioles finished in last place in the AL East and it looks like they will finish there again. The Orioles refused to be sellers last year and in the offseason, they didn’t do much either, which means they will have pretty much the same team that was last in the division last year. One player they are glad that they still have is Adam Jones, who had 26 homers last year and he has one this year so far. That home was a big one as it came in the bottom of the 11th in game one of this series to give the Orioles the walkoff win. The offense should be very good this year, but they did have just five hits in the win. Last year, it was their pitching that kept them out of the postseason as they ranked 27th in the league in ERA and it doesn’t look like it will be much better this year overall, but they did get a very good start from Dylan Bundy in the win as he has allowed just five hits in seven innings of work. Getting the win in the game was Richard Bleier, who allowed just one hit in the top of the 11th.

Getting the call for the Orioles will be Kevin Gausman and he was 11-12 with a 4.68 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP in 34 starts last year, including 4-5 with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in 17 starts here at home. In his career, he has gone 19-14 with a 3.52 ERA in 58 games (50 starts) here at Camden Yards, plus he is 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA in 15 games (eight starts) during March/ April and 8-13 with a 4.26 ERA in 40 games (33 starts) during the daytime. Gausman is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in five career starts against the Twins.

Baltimore was a bit below average on offense last year as they ranked 16th in the league in scoring, putting up 4.59 rpg, while also ranking 8th in hitting at .260 and 5th in homers with 232. On the mound, they were poor as they ranked 27th in the league in ERA at 4.97, while also ranking 27th in WHIP at 1.45 and 23rd in K’s with 1233.

These teams played a tight low-scoring game in their opener and the results of Saturday’s game is not known as of this writing. No matter what happens in that game, I expect this one to be a high scoring one. These teams have two strong offenses and while Jose Berrios pitched well for the Twins at home last year, he struggled on the road with a 5.17 ERA and he has a 5.06 ERA during the daytime. Kevin Gausman starts slow as he has a 5.88 ERA in March/ April and he has a 6.57 ERA in five career starts against the Twins. His five games against the Twins has averaged 10.2 rpg and I expect at least 12 runs in this one.
