3-3 So Far In Bases Here at BC. Let's get a couple of winners today.

    Colorado vs Chicago

A Look At The Colorado Rockies

Colorado comes in having had a decent start to their year and they surprised the Cubs in game one of this series by winning it 6-1. Chad Bettis had a strong outing vs one of the best offenses in the league as he allowed just three hits and no runs in six innings of work. Getting a start like that vs this offense has to be a huge confidence builder for a staff that has been torched in the early going. Carlos Gonzalez has a solid game as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored and is now hitting .390 of the year. Gerardo Parra also went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and is now hitting .412 over his last four games, with five runs scored and two RBIs. Overall the Colorado offense comes in ranked 3rd in the league in scoring at 6.40 rpg, 1st in hitting at .296 and 2nd in homers with 20.

On the mound is where they have really struggled so far as they come in ranked dead last in ERA at 6.57 and last in WHIP at 1.61. Colorado starters have an ERA of 6.17, while their pen has an ERA of 7.20. Toeing the rubber for the Rockies in this one will be Tyler Chatwood, who is 1-1 with a 4.38 ERA in two starts this year. In those games he has allowed six ERs on 18 hits in 12.1 innings of work. Last year for the Rockies he only pitched in four games and was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in those starts. In his career vs the Cubs he has gone 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in one start.

A Look At The Chicago Cubs

The Cubs are showing that they are deserving of all the hype as they are off to an 8-2 starts, but they do come but they did fall 6-1 in game one of this series, in a game where they offense really struggled vs Chad Bettis. This has not been an offense that has struggled much this year in the early going as they come in ranked 2nd in the league in scoring at 6.50 rpg, 12th in hitting at 2.58 and 12th in homers with 10. Dexter Fowler has had a very good start in the leadoff spot as he is hitting .424 so far and has also drawn eight walks, while driving in six runs. The Cubs are hoping that Anthony Rizzo gets it going as he is hitting just .189 so far, but he has made he hits count and hs leads the team in RBIs with 10.

On the mound the Cubs have been even better than their offense as they come in ranked 3rd in ERA at 2.51 and 2nd in WHIP at 0.95. Chicago starters have an ERA of 2.80, while their pen has an ERA of 1.78. Taking the hill for the Cubs will be Jon Lester, who is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts this year, allowing just four ERs on nine hits in 13 innings of work over the two starts. Last year he was 11-12 with a 3.34 ERA in 32 starts for the Cubs, including 7-9 with a 3.60 ERA here at Wrigley. He is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in two career starts vs the Rockies.

Prediction: Chicago -1.5 over Colorado--- The Cubs are big favorites again in this one, so I will be playing the runline here as I expect the Cubs to win easily. They have the hitting and the pitching to rout a Colorado team that will struggle away from home, especially their offense. They did surprise Chicago in game one of this series, but that won’t happen again. Cubs roll in this one.
