Race 2 Legitimate Threat (#3)
Tonight's 2nd race is a bottom level maiden claiming sprint for three year old fillies. The par for this level is a 94. This race happens to have all California breds even though it's not a restricted race. California bred ONLY races tend to come up weaker than those versus open company as far as speed figures are concerned.
Of the five fillies who have raced before, it looks like LEGITIMATE THREAT is the one filly sitting on a big effort. LEGITIMATE THREAT made her career debut on a Friday evening three weeks ago and ran into just about every obstacle out there. The first problem was while in the starting gate. From LEGITIMATE THREAT's point of view, the starter could not have opened the gate at a more disadvantaged moment. In an instant, this filly was left five lengths behind the field with an inside path to boot. LEGITIMATE THREAT still managed to break 23 seconds for her opening quarter which proves she's a naturally quick filly. She continued strongly around the turn until she almost ran into her next obstacle. A filly from the inside lane started to back up quickly which caused LEGITIMATE THREAT to steady sharply. In the final 16th of the race, this poor filly had to steady once again as two of her rivals drifted towards each other with LEGITIMATE THREAT right behind them. A young filly making her career debut is just not ready to handle that much adversity. I would say her figures of 94-87 are much better than looked. With a cleaner break from the gate, LEGITIMATE THREAT may not have to worry about as much traffic trouble. Good luck!
