Anyone have any opinion on the Classic?
In my condensed opinion, contenders from the top...
--Ghostzapper 3 for 3 this year with crazy speed numbers, he will be tough.
--I don't think Azeri has what it takes to run with the boys.
--Perfect Drift has been racing in great company, all but one graded stakes this year but he can't seem to get the job done and he's up against the same horse that beat him.
--Roses in May, another horse undefeated this year (5 for 5). I just think his front running style will do him in at the distance.
--Funny Cide is in top form. He stays close and that's what you need at Lone Star. I always said he was a top quality horse but I don't think he's the best in here.
--Pleasantly Perfect is the horse to beat. The defending champ. Runs well off of a layoff. Would have been undefeated this year if not for clunker after the Dubai. Every horse that races over there seems to have a bad race or two when it gets back.
--Dynever is another horse who races in great company, earns a paycheck but just never seems to have what it takes to get the job done in grade 1's.
My pick here is the horse that I have cashed in on twice this year at excellent odds.(call me bias if you like but this owes me nothing).
But like I said before the Travers, BIRDSTONE has not lost a race that he hasn't had a big excuse for (steadied, shuffled, hit gate, etc.) He runs great fresh and the odds should be really good in this field. I know this is his first time against older horse but I like his odds.
Birdstone to win.
Exacta boxes with Ghostzapper, Roses in May, Funny Cide and Pleasantly Perfect.
Good Luck to anyone who wagers in this race, as it should truly be a "Classic" race. I believe there could be 6 horses across the track coming for home. I'm rooting for Birdstone to "git er done".
