Belmont Park Race 4 Play #3 Forest Rhythm
Second time starter was heavily bet in his debut race in which he pressed a quick pace before fading to third. Obviously has physical issues as he is racing in front bandages and didn't make his career debut until last month but this three-year old is a son of speed sire Forestry and in the hands of a solid trainer.
Belmont Park Race 5 Play #8 Lord Louis
Pick is for TURF ONLY. Unusually weak field of $35,000 male claimers on the grass. My pick is coming off an eight month layoff but ended last season in top form and is realistically spotted here.
Belmont Park Race 7 Gr. II Brooklyn Hcp. Play #2 Newfoundland
Great race to try to upset top horse Dynever who has "ouchy" feet and has been training in bar shoes. Likely second choice Seattle Fitz's trainer is in a slump after being ultra-hot earlier this year. This creates an opportunity for my pick, who won two Gr. III stakes at Gulfstream in the winter and is coming off a nine week rest for sensational trainer Todd Pletcher. Horse is 3-for-4 at Belmont. Jockey John Velazquez gives up mount on Pollard's Vision in Ohio Derby to stay in New York to ride this horse.
Lone Star Park Race 6 Play #6 Western Song
First time starter is unusually well bred for a horse starting out at Lone Star. Two sensational workouts last month. Debuts with lasix for a solid trainer and the track's leading rider.
Churchill Downs Race 10 Opening Verse Hcp. Play #3 Hard Buck
Pick is for TURF only. 9-for-16 lifetime. World traveler started career in Brazil, had an outstanding fall in U.S. and won a Grade I stakes this winter at Gulfstream before just missing in the Group I Dubai Sheema Classic in Dubai in March. While he's coming off a layoff in a much easier spot and is clearly prepping for his next start (which might be at Royal Ascot, the world's most prestigious thoroughbred meet), he meets only one horse of substance here and has never run a bad race on grass. Short price but a winner nonetheless.
Arlington Park Race 10 Play #9 Hunting Hillbilly
Pick is for TURF ONLY. Horse is only 2-for-16 lifetime but raced credibly this winter at the tougher Gulfstream Park meet. New trainer thought enough of this three year old to enter him in a small stakes at Tampa in April. Rested since. Gets a perfect set up laying several lengths off what could be a very hot pace. Likely to be somewaht overlooked in wagering in wide open race.
Criteria: best value for likely winners.
