HOLLYWOOD PARK -- Race #3 -- MIZ ROADWAY (#3)

The 3rd race is a maiden claiming sprint for fillies and mares with a par of 94. The morning line favorite in here is a lukewarm 7-2 shot (JUSTWHATINEED). That shows how wide open this race appears. On figures, JUSTWHATINEED has earned an 87-91 and an 88-92+ in her two lifetime starts. Not bad, but she's lost twice now at this same Md25000 level and she's never earned a pace figure over 90 to go with her final figures over 90. She also has bad gate habits and has not gotten a good start yet. She also has no workouts or races at Hollywood yet. For those reasons, I was more than willing to move her to the 2nd slot and go with MIZ ROADWAY as the top call in here.
MIZ ROADWAY spent a long time laboring with bad figures in the mid-80's at the Md32000 level. For whatever reason, she showed major improvement on the pace figure side when she earned a 93 at 7 furlongs two starts ago. The final figure that day was 87 but the sudden jump in pace figure was a big improvement over anything she had ever done before. She improved again off of that effort and ran her best lifetime effort in her next start, a 92-94 in a strong Md32000 race. The fact that MIZ ROADWAY paired another nice pace figure in the low 90's with her new best final figure of 94 (which is par for today's level) is a big reason for me to use her right back as today's spot play. She seems to be improving now as a 3 year old and it might be foolish to ignore that fact since she is a nice 9-2 on the morning line. She has 2 workouts at Hollywood since raced and looks ready to go again. Anything close to that last effort would win today. Today is the first time she's actually dropping to the bottom Md25000 level.
BAJA BABE (5-1) drew the rail for her 2nd lifetime start today but earned an 89-89 against Cal-bred Md40000 horses in her first start and may be able to move forward into the low 90's today. That makes her my 3rd call.
MIZ ROADWAY is the spot play win bet today. I'm pairing her with JUSTWHATINEED and BAJA BABE for a backup quinella. Good luck.
