  • Fiancee Wins Battle Over 9/11 Firefighter's Pension

(Jan. 12) -- It has been described as one of the more bitter legal disputes to emerge from the rubble of Sept. 11: The nearly seven-year-long battle between the parents of a fallen New York firefighter and his former fiancée. Both parties claimed rights to his pension.

The conflict ended Monday with a Brooklyn, N.Y., judge upholding the decision of the New York Fire Department pension board, which awarded Doreen Noone half of the pension that belonged to her one-time husband-to-be, firefighter Kevin Prior, who died on 9/11. Prior's parents, Marian and Gerard Prior, sued Noone for the $35,000-per-year pay-out, saying they are entitled to the money because Noone was not their son's legal domestic partner.
