I still can't figure out how to pick up smilies................

Kaptain, Do you mean how to post smilies? If so just click on the ones on the right of the advanced posting message. Or you can click on More which on the advanced post is under the smilies on the right side and then just click on the one/one's you want to show up. All smilies beigin with : example : colon and end with a colon with the name in between. Easier to click on them, but if you have favorites and remember then name you can just do colon : example : end colon.

On the usernames that are somewhat smaller than before.

When posting a message with advanced are the smilies really small on the right side for everyone?
