  • Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson Officially Cleared To Play

Week 11 marks the first game Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will be eligible to returned from the injured reserve list since tearing his meniscus against Green Bay in Week 2. Peterson opted to have the full surgery to repair his meniscus, which was expected to require three-to-four months to recover. It’s only been two.

Due to Peterson’s name, reputation for mutant-freak-of-nature recoveries, as well as the cloud of desperation suddenly hovering over the Vikings’ season, the discussion of his availability will start now. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to discuss.

When asked if he expected his star running back to play again in 2016, coach Mike Zimmer on Monday replied, “I have no idea.” When asked if there was an update on Peterson’s progress, he replied, “no.”

Zimmer’s response is not surprising. The one thing we do know is if Peterson is going to play again this season, the head coach is not going to tell us about it. So when can we expect him to play?

The Vikings welcome Arizona on Sunday and then have a short week, playing in Detroit on Thanksgiving. The Vikings then host Dallas on a Thursday night on Dec. 1. The home game against the Colts two weeks later falls on Dec. 18, exactly three months from the day of the injury.

There’s also the possibility Peterson doesn’t play at all and focuses on staying healthy for next season. We know he has no plans on retiring, so sitting out the remainder of the season – especially with Minnesota’s offensive line struggles – may be in his best interest.

We will keep a close eye on this situation and keep you informed if we hear something. Until then, happy speculating.

Don't count on him playing this week! Pretty much think his career is coming to an end.
