The Patriots are trying to ensure they won't thin out at tight end in 2016.
Clay Harbor signed with the Pats today, according to a source. Terms of the deal aren't yet known. Harbor worked out for the Patriots on March 10, so he has been on their radar for three weeks.
Harbor, who turns 29 in July, has spent three seasons with both the Eagles (2010-12) and Jaguars (2013-15), and he has caught 111 passes for 1,151 yards and eight touchdowns in his career. His best season came in 2014 when he hauled in 26 passes for 289 yards and one score. In terms of catches and yards, Harbor's 2014 season was better than any of the Patriots' second most productive tight ends since Aaron Hernandez' incarceration.
