  • Zack Greinke Signs $206.5 6 Year Contract

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Diamondbacks have deferred $60 million in Zack Greinke's $206.5 million contract.
Advice: Heyman notes that all of the deferred money will be paid out in the first five years after his six-year contract. As we have seen now with Greinke and last winter with Max Scherzer's free agent contract with the Nationals, more teams may start opting to go the deferred money route to maintain more financial flexibility in the interim. Calculated by net present value, the total value of the deal equates to around $190 million.

ources familiar with Greinke's negotiations told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that Greinke had been seeking a deal with an average annual value of $31.5 million or $32 million, slightly higher than the $31 million a year that David Price commanded in his seven-year, $217 million contract with the Boston Red Sox.
